PC657 Zugdidi
4th week outside Tbilisi
OSCE Election observer : Google UK OCSE, It tells you to register & says you must have local knowledge. Seems they like beer & smokers to fit in with locals

Qn What positive things do the gods do for us ? .. Do they prevent, wars, disease, earthquakes, pain ?

East or West ? Now is end of easy trav el decisions, of just going to next place so I have to make decision of Armenia or SW Turkey. Pity Armenia/Turkey border is not open since 1993 & visa is 21 days and winter is cold. Other option is Mersin in Turkey and try to work there. Not too excited by mosques or churches.

- got as far as applying for Armenian e-visa then when webpage crashed I changed my mind.

Thu -
Zugdid University .. was it hurt in the war ?

Tues - Tsalenjinka Someone saw my photos of 3000 year old burial stone & said there was a similar one 22km away. I checked it's actually only a wobbly natural rock, but decided to go anyway. OK town for Georgia ..ethnographic museum, preserved house of poet.. and sn ancient monastery out of town, which had clearky been deliberately desecrated like the Armenian ones I saw in Turkey.

French teacher clained climate is better than Zugdidi ..It was hot & sunny until 5pm

- Wed : went 5km to Rukhi castle, German POW graves. Walked 1km further to bridge crossing border to Abkazia. Can't see other side due to bend ..only horses & carts.

Some group had cleaned up the war graves of all

Met people like German teacher, library people etc.

One main problem is social environment : it's easier to find people who want to talk about fiotball and gwt drunk, but it's difficult to fond something better. Truth is there were times when I found something more cos interesting jobs like Philidelphia, Japan, Hong Kong.

Pity I didn't give more back to Georgiaby doing some volunteer work or teaching, but I didn't bump into anything or find any festivals etc. and with there being so many TLGs no one was asking me to give my lecture to schools etc. Maybe cos Turkey Is so much richer I will find opportunities to get paid to do it. I have some ideas : I'd like to organise seminars for tourist police. and the cross country Silk Road trail, but pity that Georgia"s roads aren't safe enough unless cyclists are escorted by police vehicles.
