(g) Canino, Blera Food Festival

Sat pm - Canino
- The kind young guy dropped me in Canino - I liked the town, it one of those places that has the history, but is not been spoiled by too much tourism.

- The Domincan women working at the cafe directed me to the main square where Narciso's apartment is.
- Interesting to see Narciso's sideline business of making character pieces for old style wargames.

wasn't expecting to end the day back in Blera

- Narciso is town architect for Blera so we drove back thtu Viterbo and Vetralla to pick up 2 of Narcisos friends to go to the annual food festival in Blera.

- All the streets were covered with chairs and tables and I met everyone I seen before the foreigners from the cafes etc.

- Being on the Town Council tables we enjoyed meat, wine and then espumante coutresy of the mayor... good party

Sun : Look around Canino
- While Narciso did a bit of work I explored the town .. I was lucky enough to end up at the east side of town at the archaelogical museum. For once the site wasn't closed I had arrived at the one day a week it was open. Visiting the special painted Etruscan tombs is complicated but here they had a complete mockup. I met a couple a man from born in Canino who was visiting with his wife from Philidelphia

- I can't find photos, but a local B&B features rooms in the style of the tombs including this bizarre "Eros room"

- ah here I found A page about Canino museum

- This great page has videos etc

Sun - Vulci - castle and bridge
- I was thinking it was a long walk and I had wasted a lot of time, but Narciso gave me lunch and drove me right to the Vulci site, before he went back to work, so that was lucky. The first you thing is you see is this bridge next to the castle.

- A bigger photo

- I quickly went around the museum, then crossed the bridge. Stupidly then there are locked gates so I climbed them and got to the road and 1Km further to the archaeological site.

Sun - Parco Archeologico di Vulci
- Parco Archeologico di Vulci website
- This page has heaps of info about the site

- Started at the top of this map, next down to (1) site office with small museum then 3 hours walking around the huge site
.. a few tombs not marked on this map
and then around the back of (7) Grand temple to the main street of the abandoned city. which is not really Etruscan as the Romans took over and built over everything.
site map

- The main street passing (10) Mitreo temple

past (15) houses near the basalt side road
- then onto (16) East Gate
- down into another field which has (18)The Market ..There is a bridge, but you can't cross it to the Etruscan tomba Francois and the 2 other tombs further out
So I came to the path which goes along the top of the high river gorge and eventually to (19) the lake and waterfall where people swim.

- That was everything so I walked back to the entrance and then road..I managed to get a hitch from the guy working there to my next destination Montalto di Castro.
