Norfolk
I was heading for the Colchester Festival, but since I had a few days I decided stop off in Norfolk. I was lucky to make it to King Lynn Youth Hostel on Monday night (a nice
to historic small port town) then along the coast to Hunstanton, Burham Deepdale/Market then onto Wells Next The Sea and Walsingham (quite unlike the Camino de Santiago, not many people walking mostly coach pilgrims). I had to camp cos the youth hostels were full up with families on the coast so Thursday I gave up on the coast I went to Norwich. (did a guided night walk etc)
Then a successful festival in Colchester.
| I got to Colchester Saturday night and went down to the park to help set up on Sunday. It had 6 stages across a large public park : Main , dance, childrens area, acoustic, traditional dance, community, green area etc. The festival stopped at 8pm then we tidied up and had the whole site clean by Tuesday 2pm very impressed with the organisation. (Mark and Abi, etc)
Wandering around
| Since I had a few days to kill I wandered around ....up to Castle Hedingham Youth Hostel, then Saffron Walden then upto Thurlaby YH (cos this quaint hostel is under threat of closure). Friday down through Peterborough but Flag Fen Museum was too far to walk.
Whitstable : Another World is Possible free festival
| Hitched down to M2, but hitching was imposssible in Kent so took the train to Whistable. Small festival but great friendly people. (Mostly Socialist worker crowd) (Abi, Jim, Nick, Mandy, Bunny, Jo, Nathan) Intimate nice setting great local artists.
I picked up so many leaflets to read so on Sunday I began walking up the coast reading as I went. I went 2 miles up to Herne bay then to Reculver Towers church ruins on the cliff top. Leisurely through some small towns to the hostel at Margate. Passed the Quex park museum but it was closed. Killer Political Ideas make decisions simple (from my other website peacekam)
It's so difficult to understand political arguments there are arguments, counter
arguments, facts then reinterpretations of the same facts to mean a completely different things, then another point then more points. You try to balance them and make a reasoned argument then suddenly one tiny simple point arises which is so obvious so strong it just makes all the interpretation all the hard work of deep thought unnecessary.
| e.g. Q1. Will an attack against Iraq make the world a safer place ? (no obviously not cos it would cause upset in all the Arab countries and any terrorist could jump on an anti-western bandwagon) Q2. Do you support an attack against Iraq ? See .. Decision made e.g.2 What should we do about the delays in police checks against new teachers ? Surely we should postpone school opening until the checks have been made; we can't expose our children to the danger of un-policechecked people, can we ?
| Next more hanging around in Kent while I plan going on a foreign workcamp |
