UK Long Distance Flight tax going upI just heard that the UK long distance flight tax (ie from Asia and Africa) is going up very soon from £55 to £85 so it's probably better to fly via another European country.. maybe TurkeyUK Hotel offer some rooms only €6I notice that there are some good winter deals on hotels through the newspapers here www.dailyexpressonline.co.uk hotel rooms from £5 UK companies can be tricky so don't expect miracles like a £5 room in the midde of London on the day you want, but the law is strong here if some company advertises a product they have to provide it so there will be quite a few genuine cheap rooms around the country. Usually there is jus alimited number of "deal" rooms per hotel per week. One trick they used to do was give vouchers for a free hotel stay, but the condition was you had to eat dinner and breakfast at the hotel ..and the food actually cost more than the hotel room, but these recent offers offers have not such catch. another offer is just starting - Stay at a Travelodge between November 2010 & March 2011, and only pay £9 a night. The Spring 2010 Travelodge room sale starts at 6am on Thursday 28th October, 2010 at www.travelodge.co.uk LIMITED : The £9 rooms will be available on selected nights in selected hotels for stays between 1st November and 31st March 2011. so will sell out quickly The Daily Mirror newspaper had a promotion of Days Inn’s just £10 per night! www.daysinn.co.uk/mirror. And the NOTW had www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/notw/public/nol_public_offers/923242/Hotels-for-5.html

The UK
(England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland)
is one of the most interesting countries in the world to visit.
|
My Special HighlightsTry to get away from the main tourist places of London, Stratford, Oxford and Brighton. The rest of the country is very different from London and there a lot of really special places and friendly people.

Geography and History a very quick LessonOn a world scale the UK is a pretty small insignificant place. But it does have a very interesting history. When people
say Enland they don`t usually mean England they mean the whole country
of the UK or Britain. England is just one of
the 4 states.
England had had control of Ireland for 900 years , but 100 years ago the south voted to become a separate country. So that is why the country is called the United Kingdom Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland
- About 450 years ago King Henry VIII couldn`t get a divorce from the Catholic
Church so he created his own Anglo Protestant Church. Because Ireland joined
the country later most of the people there were Catholic. But after a war
with France the government couldn`t pay the soldiers so it gave them land
in the north of Ireland. The Catholics in Ireland didn`t want to be governed
from England so about 100 years ago terrorism started in Ireland with the
creation of The Irish Republican Army IRA. The government gave in and had
a referendum. The Protestants were a majority in the north and voted to
stay with England so the country was divided; the south became a separate
country called Eire.
The People : England is actually a country colonised by French the speaking Vikings (Normans) who enslaved the locals by imposing serfdom. Home of Freedom and democracy - There was an all powerful King, then lords and many serfs, but democracy started in 1215 when the King was forced to sign the contract called the Magna Carta which meant the Lords in the parliament had a say in government. Super Cosmopolitan Because
the country was first invaded by so many groups of people it had a diverse
culture. Then it went out and controlled lots of other countries and brought
back lots of aspects of there cultures, some things like tea and foreign words
which enriched the English language. |
