Tue- Travel to Kamianets-Podilskyi
Nowhere near as good as the preserved Czech town of Cesky Krumlov
- At 8am I arrived in Khmelnytskyi then I had to find a mashrutka for the 2 hour journey to KP

- I wasn't sure where to stay so I wandered from the new town to the old town. The old town had different areas : a Polish market square, an Armenian market square etc, but nothing looked very interesting to me.

- The buses were diffcult to figure out and the Lonely Planet was wrong so it was 1pm before I checked into a decaying Soviet hostel. Shared a 3 bed room with a Japanese visitor only 50Hr.

- I walked aroud the valley and found the hotel is actually across the valley from the castle ..so I walked there in 20 minutes. The castle was OK, but it wasn't spectacular and takes less than an hour to see everything I don't think Ukraine is a good country for castles

Wed - Day's Project to visit No 3 Alternative Castle

- Since the Ukraine's No 3 Alternative Castle Kudryntsi "set in spectacular countryside" was only 22Km I decided to visit.

- Got to bus station at 10.30am, but found next bus was 2pm, so that would mean hitching back. Decided to risk it.

- Gulag Bus - Sometimes the Ukrainians seem to resort to Gulag mentality - like I got to the bus at 1.30pm, but every seat had a bag on... they must do half their shopping and then claim their seat by putting a bag on it. I had to stand up most of the way.

One book said only 3 of the 4 walls survive, but actually most of it fell down here is the only surviving tower of the castle.

Wed - Day's Project to visit No 3 Alternative Castle

There is a cement quarry under the castle

- There is a view from the castle across the village to the big cement factory

- Arrived at 3.30pm. The castles not that great it's 90% ruined, the village is boring. They'd started a cement quarry under the castle which also faces a large cement factory. Hardly "spectacular scenary". Walked 3Km back and managed to hitch with 4 cement workers 12Km to a mashrutka. Journey was easier than by bus I was back in town at 6pm.

Thu - Day of travel to Lviv - 100 transport pitz di-etz's.

- The plan was mashruta from KP to Hemetski, then train to Lviv. The private mashruta wasn't crowded and was fast, but it took 30 mins to find it. It was convenient that it went all the way to the train station. But then I found that even though it was 12pm the next train was 3pm. I set off to find a bus, but it was 2pm before I got to the right bus station.. next bus also 3pm. So I rushed back to the train. It was 8.15pm before I found the hostel. A quick walk then bed.
