| Taiwan is not Chinese ?
I just went to this really good indigenous museum in
Taipei. indigenous museum
Everyone in the world talks about Taiwan being
reunified with China, because it's an island 100Km
from the Chinese mainland it's naturally part of
China.
But the truth is different the Chinese speaking people
didn't settle until 300 years ago. Wheras the
indigenous people have been living here for 7000
years. The island is very much part of the Polynesian
Islands. It's thought that is the first place the
tribes came to from the Asian mainland then they went
on to populate many many islands like Phillipenes,
Hawaii, Easter Island and New Zealand etc.
There are still 12 tribes of 200,000 people here.
The island was controlled by Japan for 70 years then
shortly after the end of WW2 there was a civil war in
Japan between the communists and KMT. the KMT escaped
to Taiwan. So since then the island has been
controlled by Han people from central China. They
repressed the indigenous and other Chinese and made
them speak Manadarin Chinese etc, but it seems now
respect for the indigenous is coming back strongly.
