309b Pskov, Izborsk and out of Russia

Bus broke down

Pskov Kremlin

(photo: ruined monastery, the soviets destroyed them as they represent backwardness)

Tues - I had to get up early to catch the bus to Pskov - fortunately Misha managed to get me a ticket even though the bus was full.. unfortunately the bus broke down half way. Pskov was very similar to Novgorod, but smaller. In fact it has often been part of Latvia. I walked thro the market, along the city wall overlooking the river beaches, to the museum and around the kremlin etc.

Izborsk Kremlim

I thought about moving on to Izborsk, but since there was cheap hotel I decided to stay. Actually I wished I had stayed in Izborsk 1. Despite the Lonely Planet saying there were many buses .. when I arrived at the bus station on Wednesday morning the next bus was 4 hours later. and 2. It is a very quaint and picturesque village which would have been an excellent place to camp.

Wed 5th the last day on my visa so I had to leave.. In the end I walked 2 Km out of Pskov, 5th hitched to quaint Izborsk It takes a while (30 mins to get a lift in Russia, but the drivers who took me were very kind). There I walked around the museum and kremlim and ate pliny (Russian pancakes)

Again there was no bus so I had to hitch to the border. Then I walked into Estonia then Latvia.

Photo : Viktor was an enthusiastic guy drove a couple extra Km to drop me at the customs.
