The Anarchist Reader By:George Woodcock 198? Type:NF Philosophy
An=non archy = leader .. ie hierachical pyramid style government is unnecessary
better have automatic self regulating society.
Doesn't mean chaos -government causes more problems than woorth
Anarchy =Decentralization =be your own leader
Not structure, but an organism , self balancing, e.g. Between liberty and order. There is a natural order, voluntary cooperation

The state is evil and brings conflict not order.

Anarchy is not the same as Utopian, cos Utopians came up with a system which works for ever more anarchy doesn't assume we know what's best in a future where circumstances may have changed. I don't agree surely Anarchists believe anarchy is the utopian society though it is inherently changing.

Q. What is the true opposite of anarchy ?

It's surprising the anarchist idea of liberty is close to the right wing ideas against big government

Heraclitus - wrote on the idea of fluidity in system.

I can see that animals are anarchists they have no system of government, they interact at an individual level.

"I will design nothing people will shape themselves:

In an anarchical society I feel sure that life would not be perfect and someone would come along with a new idea centralized government and it would seem an attractive idea.

Tolstoy seems to say that centralized government is inherently corrupt cos those who have the power are so likely to act in their own interests.

Theory of mutual aid - from evolution as opposed to competition when species cooperate work better

They argue that you never need to be authoritarian, but do not all animals control and dicipline their children ? In some sense do we all have the naivity of children e.g. We don't realise that it's wrong to drink and drive until the government tells us. Self leading won't work unless we are all well educated and in formed. As children we learn to respect the advice of our parents even if we don't understand the logic can't we learn to trust the government ? ; then the problem becomes how to keep the government honest and trustworthy.

Power corrupts ?
