My confusing persistent stomach bug
- As if anyone is interested in my infection
- 2 weeks ago I was coming back cos the infection hadn't quite cleared up .. now my stomachs falling out.

- Traveling around Ukraine a strange infection from India came up. And since after 6 weeks I wasn't feeling 100% maybe losing an hour each day through feeling sleep etc, but I decided I should go back to the UK and have decent medical tests to be sure. It's effects are always not so serious so it was difficult what was going on.
- 2 weeks before getting back I found I had to pee almost every hour, but then I thought that was a side effect of the antibiotics.
- then after a few days I was getting another form of diarrhoea, but since I had no pain nor loss of appetite I put it down to the fatty pork in Ukrainian food , so I simplified my diet... less pork and more soup. Some days it seemed to get better but then it would come back I realised it wasn't like normal diarrhoea apart from no pain etc I found it always really stuck to the side of the toilet.
- OK I put up with the morning diarrhoea and running to pee 10 times a day, but 4 days after arriving in Poland I have bloody mucus when I go to the toilet.. non solid poo is one thing is one thing (it's probably just local food), but sure blood in your poo is a serious matter ?
- Still no pain so I didn't rush to come home
- but 5 days after that I'm having to go to shit 7 times a day.... still no pain
- 2 days later I am back in the UK
- and 2 days after that I have to sleep with a bucket next to the bed as I can't make it through the night without going to the toilet a few times.

- from the internet it seemed I could have a prostrate infection .. that would mean that bacteria are causing my prostrate to swell so putting pressure on my bladder explaining why I have to pee all the time ... Also this swelling would push the prostrate wall into the rectum like a haemorrhoid explaining why the mucus wall was being dropping away.
- I was hoping the doctor would agree and give me antibiotics, but instead of saying "Yes I know what it is" he said he didn't ... when the samples came back after another 4 days they showed no infection.

- I went back to solid food instead of soup cos I have a hell of an appetite ..my upper stomach seems to often fill with saliva sending a message it's desperate for food
- Now 5 days later I seem to have got some kind of control over it, by taking imodium 3 times a day. Your stomach is supposed to send food down to the bowels once a day, but it seemed that mine was sending the food down very quickly. The imodium seems to restrict this so the poo is now not coming out as diarrhoea mixed with mucus, although I am still getting the bloody mucus 4 or 5 times a day.

- The doctors only suggestion was to put in for a colon inspection .. though God knows when this will be.
- 20 August - arrived in Lviv
- 31 arrived in Poland
- 3 September - first blood and mucus
- 10/9 arrived back 10/9
.. it's so bloody bizarre .. I am 90% OK , but the infection has been going on for 3 months and keeps moving around my body.

Wow travelling home from London actually got a lot easier and cheaper.
- From London I always hitch hike as the bus is £28 and only once a day and the train is a really ridiculous price. So I checked getting a Megabus to Sheffield, but what a surprise now megabus goes though Scunthorpe. It's bloody incredible the megabus system actually involves a train journey to do the 150 miles to East Midlands Parkway, this takes only 90 minutes. The whole journey now instead of taking a whole day now takes 3.5 hours and the online special price I got was only £5.

- The only problem is that the Poland buscomes into SW London and the train leaves from St Pancreas in the North London. But when our bus arrived in London at 1 pm the bus was in heavy traffic so I got down in the middle of London. It was only a 10 minute tube journey from Embankment to St Pancreas, but I had 75 minutes so I knew all I had to do was walk in 2Km North-east.. I couldn't believe it yes at 3.30pm I was at Parkway and the bus arrived in Scunthorpe 15 minutes ahead of schedule.

Hanging out - whilst sick
- Fri Doctors

- Derren Brown - Brilliant as usual - Subliminal messages something he called unperceived cues - in this episode he plannted Giraffe images around a toy store causing a volunteer to choose a giraffe as a toy present. He loaded a shopping centre with "generoity cues" and then in 90 minutes of begging ..he collected more than £150 ... one thing he must do is throw away the 80% of footage when his tricks don't work
- Sunday - our local Sunday market is bigger and cheaper than ever .. I bought a few things much cheaper than Poland ..loads of Polish people

- Tuesday - got negative test results

- Thu - Cycled to Ashby

- Derren Brown - in this episode he appeared to hypnotise a guy in a cafe by mimicking and then leading him , once he was asleep Derren told him to go to TC Rd and walk out the shop with a TV ... so he did this

Friday - went to Lincoln - whole day got swallowed up museums and shops
- One interesting thing from the Museum of Lincolnshire Life - just as Mariupol in Ukraine has huge steelworks and a huge heavy machinery plant here Scunthorpe has the huge steelworks and Lincoln 25 miles away was the a big centre for heavy machinery factories for almost 100 years. It was the first place in the world where tanks were manufactured. I saw that RB (Ruston and Bucyrus) used to be one of the worlds biggest excavator companies; 40 years ago they made the UK's biggest ever vehicle the huge mining walking dragline "Big Geordie". But shortly afterwards through bad planning they screwed up the development of hydraulic based machines so they closed down.
- Today there is very little heavy machinery manufacture in Lincoln - Ruston Turbines factory still works : It was the company that developed gas turbines is much smaller than it used to be. It's part of Siemens so the largest turbines are now manufactured in Sweden.
