Thu- Macclesfield, Buxton, Eyam, Hathersage

- A rainy day I started off in Macclesfield. I went around the silk museum , which seemed like only a couple of rooms. It was still raining in the afternoon so walked up the hill 2Km to hitch up the 10 miles to one of the UK's highest towns : Buxton.

Buxton

- Buxton was so touristy, walked around and took the bus to Eyam.

Eyam
- There were good views above the village where I walked upto the hostel only to find it costs £23

- So I walked down around the village and to the main road. It was too late to get home so I decided to overnight in Hathersage 8Km to the north. So I walked and then hitched.. the mist was already beginning to roll across the hills.

Good campsite /Bad Campsite at Hathersage National Park

--- Good
- It's only tents as the lane is too narrow for caravans
- The people running it are really nice
- They have a tight policy of keeping noisy people out
- It's £5 with a 50p public transport discount, whereas the Hope Farm Bunkhouse is £10
- Great maps and info
- hot power shower
- banks stop people driving onto the camp field
--- Bad
- Location it's in the valley bottom next to a stream
- so it gets a heavy morning mist so cold wet and filled with midges
- it should be halfway up the hill, so dry, and catching the morning sun

- So Friday - It was a bloody cold night

Fri- Walking to Sheffield

- Since the weather was good and since I would have to walk 2.5Km into Hathersage anyway I decided to walk upto the nearby Stanage Edge and down into to Sheffield city.

- I walked past Lees Hall (the Bronte house), which is better situated next door and above the campground and so has a great view. - Video coming up past North Lees Hall
- Past the climbers practicing on the cliff rockfaces, upto Stanage Pole.

close up of the purple heather moor

-On the video you should just be able to see Sheffield on the other side of the reservoirs polevideo.mp4

- I lost the path at the pole so it was heavy work walking in the heather bogs and then up and down valleys when I reached the roads. Eventually I reached the bus in the suburbs.

- Very useful site : Podcasts of Moors walks

Sheffield City

- Nothing special happening in the city centre so before going home I went to the Weston Park museum which has some pretty good cultural and historical videos.

- By taking a bus to Bawtry I was able to hitch to the A15 and upto the village.
