438t Leaving KL 9/7/08
Losing Time in KL

- KL was OK : warm, sunny and economical to live in, but there were a few problems I wanted time to think, but there never was any time for thinking.

- I felt as I was on a slippery ramp : everytime I would get near to getting on top of all the work, so that I could get on with thinking something would happen requiring immediate attention and I'd get behind again.
- At the beginning I had to
- 1. finish some work
- 2. my own website work , catchup and finish before I forgot the things.
- 3. research events . There is a constant stream of events in KL so I had to spend time researching what interesting things were coming up.
- 4. Go to events. I'd have to go to them, cos there's nothing worse that not going and wondering if it would have been any good.
- 5. Self Maintenance. I had to go for a run a few days a week to stay fit. Cut hair, beard, nails.
- 6. Explore. Then I couldn't stay at home 7 days a week so I had to go off and explore for a few hours each week.
- 7. Commuting time. - One problem wa the distance from the city one couldn't just nip to the city and nip back. - And this travel time could not be used productively. Cos there is no schedule so waiting time is anxious. And buses are really really crowded so I rarely get a seat.
- 8. Organising visitors - Then visitors took up a lot of time, planning before they came, waiting for them, answering their questions etc. And sometimes there were things about the guests that caused a lot of time to be eaten up, cos they didn't say when they were coming or they had other problems. I think we were ending up with more than our fair share of problem people.
- 9. Cleaning up after visitors. Then when they left there was cleaning up to do.

- Lose time cycle : It would be better to save up the jobs and go to the city and I invariably came back on the last bus. Then when I came back there would be something to do so I got into a cycle of sleep late get up late.

- I still have list of jobs that I haven't finished. I needed to get out of this cycle so when I saw the Brazilian booking a flight to London and I realised that if I didn't leave soon I would miss the 2 month UK summer period of July and August, so I booked my flight as well, even though I had finished the jobs I wanted to finish.

Fri - Air Asia almost sucks
- I tried the Air Asia site one more time. I found the the Bangkok flight had dropped to 35quid. Bus would have cost 25 quid so with the help of Jiri's credit card I bought it.

Saturday

- 4 lost hours Fri- I had everything packed and just before sleeping I realised my rechargeable battery was in the houseclock. When I swapped the battery out the bloody clock stopped ..... so instead of sleeping well I spent 2 hours rebuilding the clock mechanism in a "Mr Bean " way e.g. the hands would stick etc. Finally in the morning after another hour I had it working. Then I wasted another hour looking for a document I lost tidying up.

- Saturday I went into own and met up with Rana. Anyway she brought my sleepsheet so that was good. We went to the Venezuela photo exhibition, which wasn't great. Then I ran around buying last minute souvenirs.

Now I know how to get to LCCT
- The plan was to take a bus to a train to Nilai and then get a bus to the Airport. But when they announced the train was late I realised the connection was too risky, so when the northbound train came in I made a last minute change of plan to pickup the airport bus from KL Sentral. I made it before 6pm and got a bus straight away and since there was little traffic I arrived at the airport in 50 minutes i.e. just before 6.55pm. If I had gone via Nilai I would have arrived at 7.30pm. So even though the Nilai option is the right direction and so cheaper and the KL Sentral option means going in the wrong direction it's much more risky cos you are relying on one slow bus which comes every 45 minutes.
- I posted my good map back to Selva.

Flying - to Bangkok
- I made a mistake I had put my squash in my big bag so had to drink it all at the security check.

- On all my flights I managed to get my normal 3 seats for sleeping across, but I didn't speak to anyone, I just slept.

- The passport check leaving Bangkok 40 minute wait, when at Malaysian control it had only taken 30s. Were the Thai workers on a go slow or something ?

Flying to Munich- London

- Arrived at Bangkok and the best place to sleep was up in the observation room. Cos the floor was cold I realised that Selva still had my sleeping bag and cold weather things, somehow we had to forgotten them. I also made another error I should have kept my phone charger with me, cos Air Berlin checked my backage through to UK.

- The Air Berlin flight was OK it was service with free food, wine and a blanket pack. The flight was 30mins early into Munich , but the connecting flight was 2 hours late so it was 10pm when I was out of customs. So I definitely couldn't get to Cambridge. I camped in a spot I know, but the sleep was bad cos of the cold and rain.

The film Cuci Cuci is a pale shadow of Sushi Lah

- Wheras in Sushi Lah all the individual good aspects combine together to help the film cross the line into watchable Cuci doesn't have enough good bits I found it very contrived and had to fast forward. it had many good bits but The Tony Fernandez cameo was shoehorned in and cringeworthy , it was almost exlusively Malay, but the main thing is the story sufficient lacked depth to provide a strong enough backbone.
