Sabah : Lahad Datu

Mon - Agob Batu
Saw a sign saying museum so got off & doubled back. It was a cave grave complex in a 60m high rock outcrop. Interesting, but I don't like the foreigner price., climb a lot of steps see a few old bits of wood .. They might be 50 years old ? If they were really really old then surely they would say how old they are .

Mon - Lahad Datu
Decided to stay here cos the Lonely Planet said "don't" also needed to use internet to find a plane ticket.. Booked a flight for 2 days time cos I had to juggle between the end of the scool holidays and the forthcoming Merdeka Holiday.

Found hotel for 20Rm. It's like a smaller Sandikan not a bad town and has areas of historic government houses High percentage of overseas Philllipeno islanders, Sulawasi and other Indo's.

Tues - visit Eastern road
Walked to Kampung Ayer - stilt suburb over the water.

Kampung Ayer LD
Half demolished by government.

Then took bus out to a plantation village then to beach side town could have been nice, but lot of garbage.

Tues - Sahabat a FELDA Country
I hitched with a passing truck along the main road, suddenly we went through some security gates. We had entered an area where all the plantations had been developed by the semi-government Land Development Authority. Suddenly the road and infrastructure were better. We came to Sahabat town recently built to serve as a shopping and banking centre. I could have continued onto Sahabat resort - a luxury beach hotel, but people told me there were no buses only Cepalet taxis and warned me the drivers could be dangerous. So I didn't hang around I needed to hitch back before dark. Later I got a ride from an interesting engineer who has emigrated from Shah Alam

Wed : Western Road
I went out along the road ..one village nothing.. minibus expensive .. next place walked into palm plantation and met some Idahan people now converted to Islam working with fruit.. nice people

yellow Jungle durian, with an open normal Durian

We ate some normal dirian as the jungle durian was not ready.

"Oh my God, my clock must be 10 minutes slow I'm going to miss the bus to my flight ! , it says 11.45 while the internet café clock says 12.01pm and 2 other people's the same. Run, run, sweat sweat, sweat to the bus run run to the hotel get my bag .. oh.. Their clock say's 11.50am so my clock was right after all.

Got to Sandakan @ 2.45pm, but misdirected to airport bus, lucky to hitch with 3 workers arrive 3.45pm

Rosejalini met me at the airport- strangely the plane leaves ontime & arrives in KL 17 minutes early.
