Sabah : Sandakan
Tues - Bus to Sandakan
I was very late arriving at 8pm, but HC member Rose Jalani was there to meet me.

Wed : Sandakan Tour
I went to the Museum of a famous American writer who lived and wrote about Borneo- pretty good. Continued doing the historic walking tour. Quite a rundown town, but the waterfront is being improved dramatically

Downtown from the lookout

Downtown from the sea

It was war memorial day. So I went out to mile 8 to visit the site where the Australian prisoners were kept.
Thursday : Sepilok Forest
I didn't want to go to the famous Sepilok Orang Utan sanctuary it seems that it's a tourist trap, which is not so good for the apes. Rather I decided to go out to the rainforest Discovery Centre in the same forest. It was pretty new and I only saw 2 other tourists in the same day. There are pretty good gardens explaining plants, a rehabilitated forest and they are building a new canopy walk.

I walked up the road to the sanctuary and sure enough their carpark was full of tourist buses etc.

Roses nighttime tour. We drove to the Big Chinese Temple with a great view, then another viewpoint restaurant and then the old English Teashouse also a nice view.

I felt I seen most of Sandakan so decided to move onto Sukrau a place between the palm plantations and Sabah's biggest river where wild animals can be seen
