Fri- Met up with Selva
|
Metup with Selva then went to test drive the SMART TUNNEL. It's only for cars, but it's bendy and there are no speed limit signs, so people drove at 80 instead of below 60. Then it's a bit of a mess at the tollgates as 3 lanes merge to one so surely traffic jams will build up in the tunnel. So there's sure to be an accident soon.
After I met up with Peter and Markiza at Bar Alexis to see the show by jazz singer and New York based singer Shayna Zaid. Not really my cup of tea as I don't like "cool" . I am very prejudiced against beautiful people as I resent their easy life. I respect the sincere, hardworking ugly people much more. I don't like Jazz so I didn't like the first singer and I wasn't impressed by Shayna Zaid. I thought her songs were generic New York the same as Avril Lirvigne, Shania Twain etc, but less inspiring. When Amir came on his experience showed and he injected a lot of extra energy into the performance. Alexis giglist
| Sat - Listening to Indigenous people 11am
|
Good on people for organising it. Indigenous culture is important. 1.2.3.
Also here they have a large display of photos of Indigenous people, but they really do enough on their own to explain the Indigenous situation here. I find them more artistic than explaining. But as usual here the organisation, attendence and participation could have been much better.
The government isn't particularly competent in indigenous affairs, often disrespectful and exploitative. As usual people formed a :them and us" attitude. Like when I asked about how they cooperated with authorities, museums and universities "politicians are bad for us". Maybe so, but you can't expect or desire an overthrow of the government it's better to work with whatever good elements there are and try to bring more over to your view : cooperation not conflict. They after all have the power and the resources. What's the point in ostracising them out and then going around with a begging bowl. The government operates an indigenous radio service, employs indigenous DJs yet all of the editors are Malay. That's not good, but it's better than nothing.

Sat - readings in Bangsar
Mostly boring again - Though there was the History Guy and Muslim woman who used the F-word - One guy had some history stories about old Brickfields - the toddy shop and brothel hotels, but even that wasn't very interesting. One very proper, headscarfed muslim lawyer woman aplogised in advance for needing to use the F word in a story which I hope was fictitious about a woman's husband not touching her for 2 weeks, a month, a year 700 days so she had to beg him and fantasise about other men. In the story the wife also knows her husband isn’t having an affair nor gay. If it could be true it shows there is a problem in relationship talking here. It was shocking cos no one else does it, though it's taboo for muslim women to be immodest in dress I guess there's nothing wrong with them talking openly about sex in public. Maybe she's trying to encourage other women not to be afraid of talking about their problems.
| Sat - To the launching of the Colours Festival in Putrajaya
| I hate Rapid KL I checked the bus before and saw it passes KL Sentral. In fact from there it came back into Kotaraya and waited 30 minutes, before heading back south again, the bus only goes to the station so you have to pay for a shuttle bus and on the way back I had to take a train anyway cos the bus only leaves hourly. I would have saved about 2 hours by taking the train or Metrobus.
The show was big and spectacular and tacky , but really the same as the Coronation show.. I am not interested in those tacky dance routines which are not really traditional at all. I should have stayed at home. Though I did get to see that 3Km Boulevard of government buildings which somehow I'd never seen before.
