PC349 Hanging out in Penang
![]() I thought that one of the little guesthouses in the resort town of Batu Ferringi would have a better atmosphere than town, but no. Nice evening market, but the sea is a bit dirty and has jelly fish.
Fri and Saturday, Sunday, I hung out with Azahar. We went to the mainland to buy a scooter and visit his father in laws house. I drove the car back through heavy traffic on the freeway. It was interesting to see his busy family life again.

Strange sickness |
Since Indonesia I had a Strange sickness like fever without fever. Is it malaria or dengue or something ?
No headache but a few times a day, suddenly I couldn't t concentrate for an hour or 2 or 3 and had to go lie down.
| Maybe because drank lake water. After a week and a few doses of worm tablets I seemed to be back to normal. Hanging out |
| 21st March Sat - Took a bicycle and rode to Botanical Gardens - boring then Penang Hill - train so long

I have always been interested in green organizations, but the Consumers Association of Penang are coming out with a load of crap these days. I came across some of their books in Indonesia and they all full of the "Oh my God", everything gives you cancer hysteria. Full of hype and "possibly", and "upto", without respect for proper scientific technique and evidence. Indeed as most sceptical scientific magazines point out food is far healthier with additives that's why we live longer. Yes almost everything whether natural or artificial can give you cancer, but in practice doesn't give you cancer, cos the quantities we eat are small and we have a liver and kidneys to filter bad stuff. Even though every year many thousands of people injest a lethal dose of di-hydrogen oxide governments still permit it to be in almost every food. Wow ! The hysteria in their newspaper is just as bad, which is a pity as now you can't take anything they say seriously.
| Sunday Walk Tescos, hills etc |
Read Malaysia Doomed by Syad Bakar Ali |
| - - he still believes but asked why all Muslim Countries are failures ?
| My hotel in town was only $2 a day
So Another week doing Internet stuff in Penang. I see they are building a Times Square Shopping Centre in Penang like the one in KL. It seems to be a big project with monorail etc so it should bring life to a downtown that's become a bit rundown. Actually Penang was pretty boring there's the Red Garden Food Court and another one by the sea at the Padang with pushy waiters, but there were no cool places to hangout, as Malaysian people tend to stick to their own races and so many of the foreigners are bloody nutcases.
I decided to head to KL, but stop off at a couple of places on the way.
