| Memory Card Problems
|
| Monday :
I was just about getting on top of my Internet work. When suddenly my 1Gb SD memory card had the message "This card is not formatted, would you like to format it ?" Seeming to mean I have lost my files :My to to do/done list, latest web pages, latest notes, loads of radio programmes I had just dowloaded - nothing really crucial but irritating. I found there are programs to recover files.
- One discussion said that it didn't matter if you formatted the drive ..this is wrong.
In a Chinese internet café I tried one program and to run it I had to format the drive.
It took 3 hours, but the files were all full of Chinese Characters and unreadable. I tried another program Convar pci_us the text files it recovered were readable, but you have to do the recover type by type. I tried on a Korean machine Convar
pci_filerecovery which seemed good, but again the files were unreadable. It maybe the file system settings in the program.

pci_filerecovery
Since the process takes so long. It seems best to wait until I have access to a free computer and by then I may have found a good program. Hey ho.

| | - Logging is the answer to Australia's perceived global warming "crisis". etc
| |
Every year, Australia spends a lot of resources chasing fires and a lot of CO2 is released into the atmosphere. But gum trees could make an excellent biofuel. If you target the trees that are probably going to get burnt in natural fires and harvest them. You could restrict the fires and burn the trees in a power station with carbon scrubbers.
I noticed that someone else has said the same thing on the net : "Tasmania's bushfire crisis would not be so severe if the state's forests had been logged rather than protected, Federal Forestry Minister Eric Abetz said today."
"the upcoming report from the IPCC (UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) will reduce its estimate of the human effect on climate change by 25% and cut in half their estimate of the maximum rise in sea levels which climate change could cause.

A pretty impressive performance , but why didn't I like it ?
Performed almost like an opera and clearly written like poetry. Used bags of theatrical tricks like handheld torches illuminating the actors faces, a simple set painted on the floor and going up the backwall, cleverly partially translucent so that by merely using back lightling, the actors were able to appear at multiple levels, many neat parts like when the actors appeared in a close line to mimic the spirits of the dead, at one point when the couple are eating liver and onions a strong smell wifts through the set. Great blackbox space everyone had a good seat. Most actors playing 4 parts
Obviously an experienced production team and a very honed performance throughout
Quite a few singing bits, good welsh accents, certainly almost nothing to fault.
Was it satisfying ? ..it taught us the mysterious life of a Welsh village through 24 hours, we laughed we felt some angst. Though not completely captivating.
Somehow not completely rewarded, one was aware that was one was watching a very polished production, but somehow not completely absorbed as I have been in other productions. Was it the difficulty of the poetic language, or my familarity, or the subject matter. Anyway I was almost one who didn't give a standing ovation. Indeed one of the slightly annoying things was the audience not being quiet and too quick to laugh.
I guess the fault of the writing : Dylan Thomas doesn't give us any insight into humanity and most of the characters are dark.
I thought some of the older actors might have been professionals, but I am told they are all students. As could be expected from a student show it was an excellent showcase for many of their talents Interesting characters : the strumpet, the bigamist, the poisoner etc

Writing pales to that of Dylan Thomas -
- too wacky to be serious
Not wacky enough to be slapstick, what was it written to be like ?
Story is a bit weird surreal and doesn't make sense like an American movie. Set in a remote farmhouse. The husband's friend a research scientist is taking refuge there then a dark suited character turns up selling patriotic items. The play ends with him controlling the scientist with an electrode wired to his penis while the husband has been already programmed in such a way to complete obedience.

| Thursday : Character Jam Christmas Special
|
|
A kind of end of term show where the comics showcased the acts they have been working on Thursday nights; so I knew 70% of the routines word for word. They got a good crowd maybe 100 people; so finally they are getting the publicity right.
Badboy , Abba, Mad stripper, Croc, Camping, Mike Robe, Runner Man, Gym man, Xmas, Hail the bus, 2 ass bubble gum girls, tap dancer, Mawson Lakes
 Ventriloquist
Most performers do the same act all the time which they refine more and more. Wheras I am used to comedians create strong character then write a different sketch every week getting across a particular social issue or political point . In fact Barry Humphries, Dame Edna and the Sir Les Patterson are great comic characters. At CJ the most polished performers were able to ad lib, but weren't making any important points.
I won 2nd place in the raffle a double pass for a movie, just like the one already in my pocket cos the movie company had sent one to our house.

| Fri - We went to see the movie the Valet.
| |
(since we had 4 free tickets)
I wouldn't pay for a ticket if I were you. It was a French movie, so it wasn't bloody awful like most American movies, but it was pretty light. A tycoon is photo-ed with a model. To convince his wife he's not having an affair, he has to convince his wife the model is together with the valet who was walking past at the time of the photo. There was some good acting, but they didn't get across the angst between his love for his mistress and the love for his business.
