Hanging Out in Adelaide
Thursday - Science museum- not much to it more of an overflow for the SA Museum. Checked out singing group , but closing for summer

- Character Jam - you had to walk through free food and drink party for Italian film festival to get in - School principal character was strong, but almost the same as runnerman he's doing the same wacky character , but with different job titles ?

Friday - Out of the library past another free food and drink party. Wine evening at National wine centre - (the SA white wine I tried was not good) noisy crowded yack yack bar boring.

Saturday - Philosophy Cafe - Is self delusion ever justified ? more

3pm bought loads of cheap stuff at market closing.

Play A Night on the Tiles

went out to Marion to see amateur play - yet more suburbs with a shopping centre and thousands of luxury bungalows - nice beach at nearby Brighton
same as Ain't we got Fun last week : acting variable/amateur/mediocre charming but the weakness lies in the lack of depth in the plot and writing . They are pretty crap they're not GB Shaw or Shakespeare E.g. One brother is possibly the father of the other brothers child , then he gets to hear he's adopted himself. It's a bombshell, but falls flat.

2006 Play reviews

Sunday - Festival Theatre Sunday market etc

- market normal crap crafts etc , music and juggler good but excellent backstage tour - now you can understand why tickets cost $100 when they spend so much money on seating acoustics, huge stages, hydraulic orchestra pits, warm up rooms sets etc Though to be honest I prefer simple productions in the park while I sit on the grass.
- tried to find Norwood market - saw picnic in the park so got down from the bus to look - but it turned out to be the end of the Gay Festival and a bit bizarre : a Gay country fair - there was a dog show, crafts tent, lube wrestling, a large childrens area for gay parents, and loads and loads of gay oriented stalls : interesting but it's difficult for a gay event to be all inclusive ie interesting to non gays, I left after a quick look.
- Then Tea Tree Gully, a couple of interesting old buildings, bush a view of the city, surburbs of affluent houses. To Golden Grove another surburb of beautiful newish luxury houses stretching on for kilometres. Neat landscaped streets with grass verges and plants, but no sense of place as houses stretch along boulevards, there is a huge shopping/recreation centre at one corner, and only a few warehouse buildings over the hill so people would have drive to shop and work not much chance to walk.

Is Adelaide he world's most affluent City ? etc
Almost all houses seem to be luxury houses, why ? I know land must be cheap, but building must be cheap also, I guess that the weather conditions mean buildings don't have to be as hardy as in the UK. Nor do they need legions of foreign workers like other countries have to keep plant growth or garbage under control.

Back with the bus along concrete tracks in 35 mins to the city centre.

Mon - Museum of Classical Archaeology open evening - surprisingly the University has 25 museums tucked away - and surprisingly this one of course doesn't deal with aboriginal or even archaeology in Australia at all, but it's part of the classics department where 200 students study the traditions of ancient Egyptian, Roman and Greek cultures from halfway around the world. This fact was the most interesting thing about it. This city is so rich ! it turned out to be another free wine and o'deuves reception again.

Tues- internet work
What a good documentary programme the ABC Radio National Counterpoint
- giving adequate time to present the contrary point of view to the quick, but "of course" soundbites we hear in the news. E.g. The movie Mine Your Own Business e.g. Mining companies view against eco- warriors text

also check ABC background briefing Listened to Richard Dawkins new lecture - pretty good -"God is bastard look at all the evil things he gets people to do" .. burn their own daughter, stone a man to death for collecting sticks etc

The answer to Gore's film about CC is now a book link ... my climate Change page

More hanging Out in Adelaide

Wed - Norwood + East Adelaide - volleyball at Glenelg, but no-one turned up. Comedy, arrived at 9.05 as it finished.

Thu - SA Museum - Character Jam really quiet.

Fri - past cricket, walk around North Adelaide, OK not amazing

Sat - Celtic Festival, windy not amazing, project display shows whole area will become marinas & luxury apartments.

Got off the train in Salisbury : what a rough area. The kind of place where you aren't allowed to go if you don't have tattoos and as I went to check the bus timetable got aggressive words from an Aboriginal girl. "Don't be rude to my uncle, YOU CUNT", not a nice area to hang around

Sunday - Multicultural festival - Sunday State Theatre
Everybody stands up for national anthem here. .. bit boring
