Wed - Another Tedious journey
- It's 118Km the LP said it takes 7 hours I couldn't believe it could take anything like that, but it did take 6 ..7 if you count door to door. I checked into a room for 80p

We rip them off more
- On the bus was a bank manager travelling to work in a small town. He told me how he had visited Kent as he has one daughter studying forensics there and how she would get a good job in England and how he and his wife will go to retire in England. And how his other daughter is studying to be a doctor and will also move abroad, she already has a British passport somehow.

- Poor guy he has invested so much money in the dream of retiring abroad, but I am almost certain he will find himself living all his retirement in Nepal, because see UK Rips Nepalis Off

Bit boring

- The town is narrow streets on a steep hillside. It could be nice, but ever in Nepal it's dirty and untidy. Apparently the Durbar town hall was nice, but the Maoists blew it up. I spent the afternoon helping the guy in the tourist office, by the time I got away I was dark. Then I found another problem, due to the political mix in the town everything is shut by 8pm, so I couldn't use internet.

Thursday - exploration
- I got up at 6am, but no internet opened until 8am
- I walked upto the Siddartha Forest Park which is on top on the hill. There's a viewpoint where you can see the line of Himalayan mountains 150Km north, but today it was a bit cloudy.

- I walked West along the ridge then down towards Parvas. Not particularly interesting. Villagers warned me to stay away from "ghost hill", maybe politics again.

- In one village one shop ripped me off , the other was very kind. The first asked me 90Rp for yesterday's cold cooked meat and a coke with no rice .... and since I got my own bread rolls from my bag she also demanded I give one of my 2 bread rolls to her kids. The other was very friendly .. she was a young nurse who showed me photos of her job. So that's where all the single women are ! see opinion on PC443 I speak 50,000 people before I speak to a woman my age

- She gets 9000Rp/month - She said one main problem at the hospital is lung infection from cooking inside on a woodstove another is anaemia. The newspaper said 70% of kids have malnutrition. I don’t think it's not from lack of food, thereby plenty around. It's just a cultural tradition of eating badly .. . Honestly I am almost starving here.. Outside tourist areas it's difficult to find nutrition; it's always white rice and spiced up food with most people not eating fruits. If the kids were eating brown rice they'd have B vitamins and iron. I got so desperate for vitamins I tracked down a can of sardines in tomato sauce ..it was great.

- There was a big folk songfest at the park, but it was all the same to me

Fri - wasting time with an internet virus
- The internet was not so fast so after eating I tried another internet café, it's computer was suspicious so I switched to another. To listen to BBC they put me on the back computer, which I could predict would be used for porn and therefore have more viruses. Normally my memory stick jams on read only, so it's safe from viruses, but this time it didn't so I noticed quickly a virus was changing my files. Since I always work with the show hidden files ON I could see it had hidden my folders and created exe files with the same name .. to try to trick me into clicking on the folder name and therefore activate the virus replication program. I had seen that type of virus before so I was able to stop it. However when I tried to convert the folders back from hidden that menu option was always greyed out. I couldn't even do it from DOS. I asked the guy working there and he took responsibility, but he didn't know what he was doing. He spent ages copying my hidden folders over his PC and told me to reformat the memory stick and copy them back. The thing was copy 1Gb of data would take an hour and it wouldn't make any difference as the folders were still set to hidden.

- Today I worked out the easy way - the folders had been set to "super hidden" like system files so the trick is to use the DOS command : f:
then next : attrib -h -s folderrname
- If you just try -s or -h separately it doesn't work.

- I just finished that, but when I tried to listen to the BBC programmes I had missed yesterday the internet in the whole town cut. When it came back there was 30 minutes before "load shedding" power cut and anyway a Mediterranean internet cable had been cut and you can’t get BBC fast enough anyway.

Fri - Exploring East
- After wasting time on the PC I set off to explore the eastern area I walked back up through the suburbs past a Christian hospital and along the ridge line to a small indigenous village where there is a sacrifice temple and view point , finished with tea at a teashop which for some reason had no sunset view .. got back and it was loadshedding again.
