Sat - Visit Bruce's School

- Sat - since there is no power 9-11am I came back to the café at before 8am they'd said it would open at 7.30am, but of course no one came. Library no worker there, got to school which is 8Km out of town.

- Quite impressive in 19 years it's grown to 550 pupils basically 1 class per year. It costs 1000Rp/month including the bus and is a non profit trust.

- Still I am opposed to private schooling on ethical grounds.
- 1. All children should be equal, it shouldn't depend on ability to pay. So it should be the states job to pay; they could then sub contract the work to private companies etc.
- 2. If workers are so cheap in India, why not have 3 classes per year instead of one 50 pupil class.
- 3. Not enough pupils to stream properly. Government schools can stream pupils into classes of equal ability instead of stuffing all abilities into the same class.

- But if you come in and start a school, which is better than government then isn't that a good thing ? 50 pupils each year benefit from a better education than they would have done. This town seems to have about 30 different private schools catering by religion, language etc. Even if you nationalised the schools you'd still need 4 types ?

- If private and church do a good job then you see why the government sits back.

- In the long run if government schools are failing they need fixing.. Just providing a solution to a minority who will pay is not good enough.. No child should be left behind. Suppose the government could give each child education vouchers, but then money would get wasted in a advertising machine.

- School only runs in the morning so went back to Tyrones house for lunch

- Bit of a strange day cos everyone was excited by the election results coming in. For me it's a load of TV brainwashing pazaaz, If you wait a day you get all the results in a moment instead of wasting hours. Congress getting re-elected isn't like a big change like Obama or a war ending. Even if stability allows them to run some good programmes there'll still be many corrupt cronies. I suppose people think M Singh represents New Congress as opposed to the Congress that was so less effective than European or Asian Tiger governments.

- Whatever Happens Nehru Wins- Indian politics is weird anyway : 2 Nehru family members head The Congress Parrty while 2 other Nehru family members head the opposition BJP the other big party.

- We went to meet Tim a juggler from Sheffield who has lived here 10 years.

- How much are people's emotions whipped up by TV, my room has TV so it's the first time I really watched ..it's crap and so banal

Sun - Explore
- I didn't want to waste time and money travelling to Garo Hills big tourist attractions like the the National Park and canyon, instead I wanted to get a feeling for the culture by exploring the nearby convenient areas. Today's plan go south 10-15Km then go south to Chibragre Picnicground

- 12pm arrive at village tea shop open my bag Oh my God where are my photos !

Sun - Where Are my Photos ?

- I rationalized that I must have left my photos in my hotel room, but no... - I tried to think back .. I had a made up memory "hey hadn't I thrown them into my bag as I rushed to get a bus", even though it felt like a half memory, at the time I didn't trust it as it didn't make sense why would I have taken the photos out of the bag ?

- now I realise I had been thinking about them just a moment before throwing my newspaper biscuits etc. into my back so the 2 memories were being mixed.

- I decided to first continue my day and went to Chibragre Picnicground

- Later I have more time to search I rationalized that I must have left the albums in the café or restaurant, but since it's Sunday all are closed so I backtrack to the bus terminal.

- 8am Monday I go back to the cyber .. 11am the guy turns up and he's got my photos !

Chibragre Picnicground
- "Chibragre Picnicground Around 9km from Tura on the Tura-Guwahati Road is Chibragre, a popular place among picnickers with its lush green surroundings and breathtaking beauty. This is the confluence of two rivers - the Ganol and Rongram. The traditional hanging bridge made of bamboo over the Ganol lures many picnickers. " It's broken ... The park wasn't that great I hitched back with people coming from the opening of a British church sponsored orphanage.

- They don't mention the Eco park at 8Km, the turnoff for Chibragre is at 9Km then 2Km

Mon - Internet work
- got my photos back... Full day of internet work

Life Being a Pain in the Ass again
- everyday something bloody stressful.
- Sun - I lost my photo albums for 24 hours
- Tue- My memory card with all my recent work on has stopped working - then my new shirt is too small to wear.
- I swap the shirt ... Then find this shirt has half the buttons are missing.

Tue - main memory card failed
- Today my main memory card is not working in my phone. Last night it worked fine
- 1. I had just uploaded all my main webstuff to the web so I only lost some notes and emails in progress
- 2. There is still a chance to recover them easily as this card has 2 connections , if the other end connection works. 3. In a couple of hours with file recovery prog I should have a 70% chance of recovery. 4. Many things were backed up last week but not recent notes.

Tue -
- Tuesday was supposed to be the catchup with notes day, it became the recover files day. I got most things back using ADRC Data Recovery Express 1.3 but it doesn't let you get back bigger files like photos for free an anyway the smaller photos were corrupted.

- So Wednesday became the catchup with notes day so I couldn't leave until Thursday.

Thu - Leave Meghalaya
- Just past the Sherwood school I saw there is another Forest park and zoo and a treehouse 1 Km past that.
