490t Kurseong, Jalpanguli 17/2/09
- Out of the hills and East

- To avoid the traffic chaos in Darjeeling I took a kind of shortcut, by walking the Aluri Buri road to Jorebungalow. This 4Km walk brought me to the main junction which is actually 12Km away from Darjeeling on the normal road. So I picked up a jeep going to Kurseong for 30Rp.

Tue - Kurseong

- The guidebook said the place to visit was the forest museum - It didn't say it was 3Km up the hill. After walking with my heavy bag I got a minibus. - A forest training institute founded by the British. Museum OK, met some flat capped politician and his military guards. At the nearby forest park, saw a Yak and met some interesting forest trainee's from Nagaland and Sikkim ...got a ride down with them.

- Wish I'd stayed longer to explore Kurseong more, but since I had an appointment with CS host at 4pm and it was 1.30pm I dodged a local taxi man and directly jumped on a jeep to Siliguri 45Rp slow winding journey down to the plains (Dooars or Terai)

Tuesday - Siliguri
- good - Locals in directed me Jaipalguri bus.
- Rajashi's phone not working
- 3.30pm bus empty so went to buy pop
- bus had left, but only 80m, had to run back for my bag, which they has offloaded.
- 5pm arrived in Jaipalguri, but his phone didn't answer, got to a cyber and found I had mistyped the last digit 9 instead of 0
Tuesday - Jaipalguri

- Rajashi' picked me up at 5.30pm, and gave a room in the wedding parlour they have beneath the house. It seemed that there was a bus strike on Thursday so I would have to leave 1.30pm Wednesday.
- Actually his father turned up who had visited the UK 5 times so was interesting to talk to.

- Wed - I spent a hour showing Rajeshi my internet travel tips page and helping him find cheap flights.
Rajeshi
- Rajeshi with his motorcycle

- Then Rajeshi took me on a motorbike tour of the town, which was good.

- On the highway I got on the bus at 2.30pm.
