- sign at University "teaching of Hindi as a 2nd language"
- What the F is that ?
- 1. This is Assam, many people are speaking their tribal language at home, and Assamese at work so Hindi would be a 3rd language.
- 2. I don't accept India is a country . It's like the European Union i.e. India is just a governing body with different countries within it. - Governments should speak the language of their bosses ... the people not force them to conform to it's language. People in Wales can learn Welsh and do all government business in Welsh. They can as most do learn English if they like, but no one says they have to learn French cos the EU is centred in Brussels. Likewise people of all states should only need to learn their own language and then if they want the language of the state : Assamese, Tamil, Gujarati etc.
- Hindi is not the national language- Like German in europe it's an imporant language and spoken in more than 1 state, but German isn't the national language of the European Union.
- Unfortunately English is the International language. Yes there are some transnational organizations like the Indian Army so I can see the government saying it needs one language, but it would be better if there were only state armies, that way the army could relate to local people better instead of being perceived as Hindi outsiders
