th
Tue - rented a bicycle for 20 Euro for the week
- Wed - Dean The guy from NZ came over
| Thu - Bicycled south part of island
|
- Had 2 days catching up on internett work etc and not spending whilst I waited for money to come through. Then Thursday Biked Kerkyra I registered my phone then through town shortcutting through Kanoni across footbridge to east coast road. I saw a sign to 2Km to Achillon the old Austrian Empresses Palace ..very hard climb maybe 300m in altitude... not worrth it ..not much to see from outside
- Dean was right about coastal breezes making bicyling difficult cos when I got back down the wind had shifted to an onshore wind which opposed me ..next 25Km south wasn't as easy as before even though it was mostly flat
- Benitses ...its nothing ...
- It was a relief to turn inland then at West coast stopped at Korisson Lake ... nothing cos water low so big walk across dunes
...then to Lefkimi , which is actually 3 towns over 3Km, but real Greece; not touristy. That was 65Km so I put bike on bus €3
- I got down 5Km before Kerkyra at Kanoni bridge and cycled into town on the main highway.
| Fri - bus north to Kassopi, Kalami
I was at a place in the north Konti .... at the harbout there was a boat called Wave(runner or something) and it said Brigg Marina.. the owners weren't real talkertive and said they are going back to Brigg soon
OK I suppose
I went by bus cos up and down road
| Sat - 3 west coast places
|
- I was late starting off cos of heavy early morning rain. bike to Aqualand o get to West Coast
- Mirtiotissa Beach - disappointing - all it is is a steep road leading down to 200m of beach uunder a huge cliff .. It's a nudist beach maybe that's why it's supposed to be cool,
I cut 4Km upto Pelekas...right at top there is a park called the Kaiser's Throne - Wow it's the best place in Corfu .. It's a 360 view of the whole island.
- Picniced and then cos of rain coming set off for Sinarades 5Km. My idea was I would be in the museum whilst it rained..but when I arrived it was closed ! It was 3pm and I had forgotten it opens 9-2pm only.... I get into Greek mode about being laid back about time and then I miss things cos they are closed. Icut back through more villages of many abandoned Venetian houses with great views similar to The Kaiser's Throne.
- Back in Kerkyra the Ecofest display was quite small. I went to see if the new castle had free entry, but no .. Internet, supermarkets etc

Sun - Vidos a park Island
|
- checked 2 British markets ..intended to work, but I reasoned if I was going to visit Vidos a park Island 1Km offshore from Kerkyra then Sunday would be the best day..
- It was better than Katia said... Firsky cos it's wooded and an island it was cool and breezy, I walked around : there's the unrestored leper hospital in the middle, beaches on the east side, 2 rules fortresses, a huge Serbian mauseleum on the south side ..loads of pheasants and tame rabbits, and n litter no crowds ..people on the beaches were from
yachts
"Tomorrow another happy day" what Tony Benn's mother used to say at bedtime.
| week 3
Mon - biked to Ano Korakiana, Skripero
Tue - maybe came to Kerkyra work
| Wed - Kerkyra working
|
- but then I met up with Katia who was in a church cooking 62 meals for the poor, so I ended up helping her, which was interesting. We walked around and ended up at the Anarchist Ecological centre an abandoned government building next to St Theodore Monastery near the Artemis ruins which they have squatted and turned into a social centre and community farm garden. - 1st Primeministers house
Met up with Katia it was very hot so we went over to Pelekas beach, to visit her friends fish restaurant but it was closed so we went to nearby trendy cliff side nightclub which was made of stone and had a cool breeze. I made her stop off at the Kaisers seat a viewpoint in Pelekas.
