Tuesday morning - I arrived

- with a Japanese grandmother Eiko in tow so I was busy helping her - right at the last moment as we left the boat I had to run back for my battery charger .. Being busy organising her I'd forgotten it, I gave her a real good tour of the town ancient and old parts. Then I ran 1.5Km to get the shopping and got her to the camping. - Before cooking I went to talk to other campers to get info ... there was a problem the water was not cooking as the flame was 3cm below the pan It was 10.30-11pm before we'd eaten and cleaned up.
- Tuesday - We did first the ancient side of Kerkyra Town and then the old town side

Wed : Walked East
- Both our beds in Nafplio had had bedbugs and I still had them so ... it was almost 11am before I finished all the cleaning and planning. She was annoyed as she was waiting 2 hours. I planned nearby places today

- From the camping we walked East to Dassia a nearby beach resort and then a quaint village. we walked up to the National Gallery Museum ..it was closed of course

- She kept asking me about when I was going to Albania, but how can I think about that when I have only just arrived in Corfu,.... Corfu might take me 4 days, but it might take 3 weeks or 2 months if I found some work. She had no book or idea about Albania and Bulgaria so I took her to a cyber for 90 mins and researched a route and bus times for this 3 day journey. She suddenly said she had a hotel booking in Bulgaria for Tuesday so she'd better leave on Friday meaning she just had 1 more day for Corfu as today was Wednesday. 30 minutes later she said no her booking was for Thursday, but she would still leave on Friday.

OK next we went to the city where I needed to do some work in the library. Again she surprised me by suddenly saying she wanted to visit the Empress of Austria's palace 15Km south... A surprise cos after saying she was saving money she wanted to go to a place which is only a garden and costs €7. She was unlucky as now it was after 5pm and there was no bus. So I said she could come with me in the morning to the west coast and then in the afternoon travel to Achillon.
- back to the library ..it is open on Wednesday afternoon but only by appointment
- think stopped off 3 Km early and walked back I wasted time buying another 5Kg of food from supermarkets and got back after 9pm.

I went to Greece and it was closed

My CS contact said "with the weekend we had 4 days free!!! From tomorrow running again!"

- I hate holidays ... cos I lead my life the opposite way around to most people, so I have easy sightseeing wthout crowds while they are working ... Then when other people stuck in crowds on Sundays and holidays I work. But some days I need to work or do something, but I can't cos all the services and offices are closed.

- In Greece there are so many holidays and strike (απεργία) days ..government offices are always closed. I have been here 2 months and I count 7 public holidays and 6 strike days that's an average of one non-working day per week ... how can an economy function when things are often closed ? (The UK has 8 public holidays in a whole year)

- I find it frustrating ... 50% of the time I arrive at a museum etc the are closed cos of lunchtime, 3pm closing, holiday or strike or Monday closing

- e.g. I needed to do some work at the library in 2 weeks I got to do 1 hour !
- Monday - I was in Pilos - library closed for reconstruction
- Tuesday - In Kiparissia they said the library would be open ..but it was closed for school exams !
- Wednesday - Pyrgos - got to library at 1pm it closed at 2pm
- Thursday - Korinthi - libary closed 14-18pm, but when I went later it was closed ..cos of strike day
- Friday - Napfoli - rested at siesta but when I arrived at library at 6.05pm 1. it closes at 6.30pm normally, but today it was closed for fumigation
- Saturday - Napfoli libary closed cos it's weekend, passed Patra library but it was closed cos it's afternoon
- Sunday - Patra libary closed
- Monday - Patra libary closed cos public holiday .. I never expected it to be a holiday
- Tuesday - Kerkyra Library - arrived in afternoon, but library only open in afternoon Mon, Wed, Fri
- Wednesday - Dassia - being a tourist - went to Kerkyra libary but found it is only open if you telephone first
- Thursday - On west Coast at Paleo
- Friday - Kerkyra Library - morning yes it's open, but actually this library is private ..the other library is the Municipal Library..It is inside the old fortress.. ...they say I have to be a member and give me a form ..if I bring the form on Monday my card will be ready on Thursday next week
- Can you tell that North European people are not as relaxed as southern Europeans ? ha ha !

Come to Greece ... the place where everyday is a holiday
...... - For Greek government workers

ah I just checked I see that June 5 many museums are free and since they are free on first sunday in June they should be free on Sunday June 6th also ..or maybe they will make it free on June 13th instead one benefit of holidays

- Ropa Valley ?

Thu - On west Coast at Paleo
- Plan : west coast, Beachtown called Paleo visit to monastery, historic villages and a castle. - The next day she was even weirder. The bus was at 8.45am from 10 minutes walk away so I said we'll leave at 8.25am. She got up at 6.30am and by 8.20 was charging down the street ahead of me .. A change from her normal Japanese style habit of walking 10 steps behind me. So we ended up waiting 15 minutes at the bus stop. - When we arrived she was in a hurry to check the bus back. I figured since we didn't know how interesting the monastery was and how far the village and castle are we couldn't be sure whether we should take 10.45 or 12.15am bus. At the monastery she continued her weird behavior charging up the hill, but it was still early so I sat down for the 2 museums to open at 9.45am She looked at the museum for 5 minutes and suddenly turned to me and said "Goodbye, I go now to Sidhari and then around island to Empresses palace". Fine she's the one following me not me following her.. But I don't understand why she is running now when the bus won't leave for another hour from this small place. Inevitably I am walking 50m behind her all the way to the bus stop. Also why didn't she tell me earlier cos the picnic food is in my bag and the drinks in hers. I can only guess she thought the bus was at 10. I gae her the food. Then I figured if I took the 10.45 bus it would get me half way to the village so I went for a swim and walked up the road 20 minutes and got the bus as it passed me ... Saying bye for a 5th time 3Km later.

- Left phone on bus ..big walk ..village .. castle etc ..walk down ..3 oclock bus back

Back in Kerkyra I think ... - In the evening when I got back at 9.30pm I tried ask her about the places, but all she told me was she'd been to Sidhari, back to Corfu town and south to Achillon palace but there was no bus around the coast .."now I have to sleep" At 6 in the morning she was busy packing

- Friday
- Eiko left very early to get the ferry to Corfu .. Kerkyra Library - morning yes it's open, but actually this library is private ..the other library is the Municipal Library..It is inside the old fortress.. ...they say I have to be a member and give me a form ..if I bring the form on Monday my card will be ready on Thursday next week
- Fri - Kerkyra - visit library, but they said it's private and sent me to Municipal Library inside old fortress. Internet, repair shoes.
- Sat - internet preparation day.

Sun - Walk with Friends of The Earth
