Everyday walking

- Island walking
- Belgian Guy writes heaps on walking

I was in Santorini for 10 days
- didn't get time to write what I did yet ...Be kind to Yiannis he was very kind to me. He knows all the bars and has all the right contacts. He is the cool young dude in Santorini.

- Everyday I was walking, but I kept having minor disasters which I complain about a lot.

Not Inspired by Greece Islands - just irritated by life's small things

- It's strange Greece made no difference to me but the small things do. Like on the Thursday since Paros Island was boring I took a boat to Santorini Isand. My stomach had no bleeding for the last 2 weeks and I can say Tuesday and Wednesday it was 100% normal.

- I arrived I got a cheap bed at the camping I walked around and then used the internet at the library then I decided to walk to the cheap supermarket ..it was 2Km outside the town and then I walked 1Km to picnic. Cos I felt my stomach was normal I'd bought some fruit : apples and tomatoes etc. By then it was 9pm then 9.30 when I was back in town then my water bottle dropped from my bag and I saw it was open. So I checked it ... My guidebook was missing ! What to do? I was very annoyed...I had to walk all the way back to the picnic place and supermarket But I didn't find it.
- I arrived back at the campsite at 10.30pm I was stressed, I had walked 10Km total... Then I couldn't find my sleeping trousers. I had to search my big bag, but no.

- So cos I was stressed my bleeding came back. On Friday morning at 9am I found my book in the library.

- Life goes on , but few good seems to happen. No instead many small bad things happen usually cos of my stupid mistakes. It's strange that losing something gives so much more bad feeling than the good feeling you get from buying it in the first place.
- Life is 2 steps forward 1 step back all the time - Like is your life like this ? Every other day something breaks or gets lost.

- Thursday I lose my book, then lose my trousers, then a few days later my USB charger stops working so I can't charge my smartphone, then money problems

- Losing those black sleeping trousers was bloody irritating : they cost me $1 in England, but they have been perfect. In the day I wear shorts and then when it's cold or I go in a church I can put them on without taking my boots off ... And it's cold at night camping so I need them . Then when I don't have them it's a disaster as I can't easily buy something so "perfect" and surely not for $1. ... I went to a few shops and I couldn't find .... But then today when I was walking I saw that someone put a bag of old clothes out and I was lucky that there was a similar pair, someone had been using whilst painting ... but they will be fine for sleeping and walking in.

---So from 3 problems I fixed 2.

Fri - Explore southeast : Thira Ruins, Profiliis mountain and villages
- First bus to Kamari

- First ..As we arrived there were loud bangs so I walked back and saw it was a church festival ..it's only 4 days after Easter and already there is another festival !

- The Mafia like family invited me over and loaded me up with free food and wine
- what a surprise - meat and potato

- I walked around the rest of Kamari - which was basically closed cos it's off season ...

- then walked up up up to the ruins of Thira. As I say you walk up up up and then suddenly right perched on top of a rock massif there are ruins of an extensive, but compact ancient city. Apparently the old capital was down by the sea at Akrotiri, but after the volcano destroyed it all they built the new city up here... CLIMATE CHANGE - There must have been a completely different climate then cos today it's terrible .. This place catches all the cold north winds.

- From this place you can look north to the bigger Profilitis rock massif 1Km to the north about in the centre of the island. It looks a difficult path cos you go down one massif and up the next, but it took me only 25 minutes. The big monastery church was closed of course cos this is Greece and it's lunchtime...

- I could see Fira 8Km away so I decided to walk back ... down through the villages. ... First to Pirgos built around a Kastro mound then down a canyon to the next villages Messaria - villages looked historic with old buildings and churches, but no special atmosphere. I hitched a ride for 2Km with some Greek kids then walked the last 1Km into Fira.

Sat : Walk from Ia (Northwest of Island) to Fira and villages
Sat - I walked from Oia to Fira folowed by stray dog all the way ... met up with Yiannis

- The big thing in Santorini is to see the sunset , but it turns out to be another one of those fake dreams ... Every day I looked the sunset was boring cos of the cloud.

Sun - went down to old harbour
..met up with Erasmus students

Mon - walked
....back South to villages I had missed and windmills SW of Perissa etc
- but these Santorini villages are boring to me .. Instead of an active town square .. I find a couple of tavernas with expensive tourist prices .. All the village houses are tucked away and anyway I always arrive during siesta time and there's no one around ... I think most of the houses are holiday homes so are empty anyway.
- stopped off on way back at the winery coop .. Not free €1.50 glass, but nice view. Walked back to Fira the long way

- Yiannis gave me island tour

Tue - walked SE Pennisula
- Took the bus to Akrotiri beach where they are still building the roof over the archaeological site... Looks almost finished ... Walked 200m south to The Red Beach : another disappointment : it just a pebblely beach where some patches of the pebbles are red.
- To Acrotiri Village - not great .. Bit of a kastro ..then south through 3Km of vineyards to a lighthouse at the end of the pennisula.

- Hitch back with French people who insisted on driving all the way down to the bought despite there Being 20 ferry agencies in town

Wed - Volcano island
went on day long boat trip to Volcano island etc
- The guide was friendly, but to me the tour was disappointing cos it's nothing compared to the active volcano places I have been to.

1. Volcano island - nothing to look at it's a just pumice
2. The hotsprings - they don't actually take you to a hotspring : The boat stays 100m offshore and then people swim to a place in the sea where hot water leaks up .. It's more like a lukewarm bit of sea.
3. The quite, quaint island ... Nothing interesting to see.. Not quaint just dull

Thu, Fri - internet
- Just working..well walked east 3Km to opposite coast and the new small harbour... Not interesting

- George at the campsite did a big feast for his Albanian workers
santoroni albanian workers
santoroni albanian workers
