Went to the history society meeting about watermills
.. didn't learn much .. except - they had been introduced by the Romans and became popular again later on in The Middle Ages
- and that the local tower windmill at Hibalstow has a pond driven water part aswell
- and that the River Humber used to have many tidal mills
| Derren Brown seemed to narrowly fail to bet Roulette
- He appeared to fail to calculate the right number and just got the number next to it.
- However someone pointed out he did a similar trick in live shows 2 years ago also appearing to fail.
- In this instance it would have been a bit much to beat a real casino. In this country and others it would have been illegal in others he would risk having the wrath of the entire casino mafia on his tail. It suits them to have punters believethey can beat the system so that they can make money as the punters try to perfect a system which isn't realistically possible.
| History lecture about the WW2 German Aircraft-carrier Tirpitz
- Went to the BASH history club meeting
- The guy failed to point out a couple of important things
- 1. Bismark was the twin ship and in it's first outing the Bismark sunk one of Britain's best ships so Churchill had her sunk in 1941 ... So he applied the same order to the Tirpitz.
- 2. Actually in action the Tirpitz was not so effective. The
2nd time she came out ..the British navy scattered convoy so many sunk by Uboats so even though Tirpitz didn't attack just threat of her was successful in causing damage.
- After that she was kept in dock until the successful British attack. He said that it was completely disabled and the British hadn't realised. Wikipedia said it was only disabled for 6 months and reported that in Russia it's always stated that Russian submarines disabled the Tirpitz
| - Vilma says my symptons are Amoebic dysentry-
Yes the symptoms on the Wikipedia Page seem to correspond ... It also says it's difficult to detect and they have to do at least 3 stool samples .. I only did 2 so friday I put in another one.
- I was hoping to get some medicine within days of being back in England, but it's been a month of this bloody mucus in my stools now I want to take some medicine and get back to normal. I have a colonoscopy on Tuesday
- This is crap ... in any other illness you get really sick for a few days .. you get lots of sympathy from people and then you are OK and life goes on. But this illness is different... it's not so strong there isn't much pain to complain about I am almost like normal, but
I can't get things done.
- Half of life is taken up with mundane things like eating, tidying up etc.
- then I find I get more time eaten up cos I have to go to the toilet 9 times,
- and I have time when my upper stomach is lubricating so much I have to put more food in it (even though I know it will create more digestion problems later)
- then there are other times when I minor stomach cramp usually at night so that's stops me sleeping properly, but that means I have hours in the daytime to do stuff.
- In the now reduced remaining hours I find I can do all the mudane things like watch TV and read the newspaper, shopping and going into to town on the bicycle etc,
- but when I sit down to do something else I find I can't concentrate for long cos my stomach is lubricating or I have to go to the toilet etc.
- So in normal life when one is 100% healthy one can sit down and concentrate and gets things done, but now with this sickness I am find time is disappearing and then with the left over time I can't concentrate.
- Then this illness also has another strange effect it gets worse over time, but so slowly so that I hardly notice it's worse
- Now I am hardly different on the outside, but I am just existing instead of living.

This is Crap : Still no diagnosis
- Tuesday 13th Disappointing Doctors, Once again I failed to get a diagnosis. - Jesus Jesus he stuck something up my arse and said the only thing was to make an appointment to have a colonoscopy...
- 16/1/09 I had to get up 6 times last night. Eventually at 5.30am I took an IBS tablet.. it worked well within 20 minutes I was asleep ...the sickness changes like I don't have problems peeing now, but in other ways the sickness is worse. 17 th was the same I had to get up every hour.
| Maybe C-difficile infection|
- I heard Steve Redgrave on the radio saying he had had colitis which is the same symptoms as what I have got. What had happened in Redgraves case was that he had salmonella then diarrhea for 3 months. So I checked in the library sometimes a bacterial infection causes scarring in the stomach lining : ulcerous colitis. However , One common thing is that people have antibiotics this kills all the bacteria in the stomach except the C-difficile, so the C-difficile flourishes. Since it produces a toxin that irritates the stomach you get symptoms similar to mine. So this must be what I have. I am waiting for a date for a colonoscopy, but surely if I can start taking the drug against C-difficile I'll start getting better
- If they could say "yes it's C-difficile" I could start taking the drug against it today
I phoned this morning and they said "no you have to wait for a firm diagnosis and this will be after your scan on 28th October"
- I guess the only thing I can do now is phone the other department and see if they have anyone cancelling their appointment so I can take mine earlier
| Theatre : Deceptions|
- I like drama and theatre, but the problem is I'd have to go into town or a city to see it. Then on Friday there was a village touring play in the village hall. I thought I don't reaaly expect it will be very good. Then I thought well it's convenient so I'd better give it a chance.
- Once again I was disappointed : bad writing, bad acting and bad directing. The bloke behind me said " that was good wasn't it". No it wasn't The actors id try, but it's not enough just to play a character on stage you have to establish it, but these characters were never convincing that you imagined they were real people. The story wasn't Shakespeare quality it was written to open up backwards. The guy goes to see a pychiatrist, argues with her, deceives her, they fall in love they marry and then he reveals the reason he married her was to get revenge on his serial adulterer father cos he knew that this pyschiatrist had been one of his fathers lovers and was the real mother of his sister. But then he has to convince her that even though it was a manipulative plan he really does love her.
