Issues raised
1. people want a better life, they can't go to rich country legally so they are in the hands of traffickers
So is up to western governments to help developing countries and fair trade so people get rich in their own countries
2 - customers exist .. Men could be helped so they don't seek the services.. ie find women outside prostition and have better relationships with them
3. women are generaly different from men ..poor women will take risks to obtain security.. Again if they had financial security like a welfare state.. they wouldn't need to
4. men are programmed to seek EPCs, variety .. how can they get this without prostitution ? serial monogamy, acceptance of non intrusive customs like pornography
You see we have painted ourself into a corner with "lifelong marriage" belief. The ony way to obtain variety in sex is to break the rules. I would describe the UK system now as serial monogamy, which does allow people variety in life without breaking the rules
CK should be leaglize prostitution ?- history has shown us that the basic problem with banning things, alcohol in the US, recreational drugs etc. is it gets taken over by gangsters who don't respect normal life rules. So better be a legal prostitute and be protected by the government, that be at the mercy of the gangsters. But prostitution shouldn't be a necessity (perceived or otherwise) I am not going to sell my arse !! If we can change the world so that women will feel secure ..(ie welfare state, opportunity for jobs etc) then women will not be forced into taking the risks that end up getting them into to prostitution.
I don't think think the Cambodian government should start sending girls to work in European brothels on the argument that that would be better than them being controlled by gangsters.
I don't like the basic tone of her argument men vs women this is like simplistic rascism
... experience teachers me to be wary of such arguments ..men underneath are not so different from women at all. There is considerable overlap.. Men and women are 99% the same ...there are some men who will sell their bodies and some women that won't etc. And when you have an argument based on bad assumptions it is a weakened argument.
