The Baru way is the Ecological Way

Traditional monks often eat simple food Barugongyang. Today most Korean people are very consumerist; they buy every new device that is invented and their houses are cluttered with them. This is good for the Korean economy as people spend money they are providing wages for others. But is this ecological ? Why is organic food important ?

For most people ecological means being kind to nature. This is linked to the idea of sustainability and permaculture. Sustainable means living in a way so that the planet and future generations can go on living in the same way. So using renewable resources like fuel from plants is OK . But using fossil fuels like oil and mined minerals like iron is not. Without completely recycling these materials will one day run-out and not be available to future generations.

So if you live the Baru way (a simple life) and you don't buy these "toys" then you are being ecological.

Similary farmers who use chemical fertilizers and pesticides are not ecological., because they are made from oil and mined minerals. If you eat organic food you are supporting farming which is sustainable for the thousands of future generations of people.
