Dark Side Of the Sun : By Prachett |

Written in 1976 this is one of his early books. It flled with `clever ideas, but it not as smooth as his later writing so it's quite difficult to read.
| What I would say if I was becoming an MP

1. Form a Party called Common Ground - You have to realise that most pople are coming from mostly the same moral angle . Even a conservative muslim, conservative christian and a hippy would agree that rape is wrong. One could first start with the policies that are universally accepted ..and then leave people to decide on the other things themselves as long as they don't harm others.
BTW.. Getting yourself addictred to drugs/alcohol is not a victimless crime, because you are putting the lives of children or children not yet born at risk.
- Secondly Common Ground would be run by Governance Systems International a group of top professional administrators from all over the world.
| Interesting Comedy like the old stuff|
- I came across an interesting prog on radio 4 with a comedian. He turned a small incident into a whole 30 minute sketch where an old women had been given the wrong itinerary by the booking office so was on a 10.15am train with a 10.45am ticket and the conductor decided to enforce the punitive ticket rule forcing her to buy a ticket for £115 10 times the price she had already paid. The comedian did a £1 whipround from 105 people then a businessman put in a tenner. The conductor had the police intercept the comedian for begging, then the businessman revealed himself to be a top lawyer. The police walked away and the 3 went to the customter service desk to complain. The staff knew Virgin was in trouble so they refunded the £115 to charity and paid for a cab for the old stressed lady. Item in the Telegraph
- The Comedian then turned the thing into a 30 minute sketch "An Open Letter to Richard Branson" and performed it 300 times on his tour before I heard it on the radio.
- "Tom Wrigglesworth recounts his tale of taking on the jobsworths. Tom describes his confrontation with a vile train manager and finds the time to mull over other important issues including trainspotters, big beige granny bags and the length of time it takes to eat a pistachio nut."
- I usually say comedy died 30 years ago, but this not is as funny as the old stuff used to be, but it was close
| Google Chrome Many Faults
- Why didn't anyone tell me Google Chrome has so Many Faults. Reviews said it has slightly better speed ratings for java etc so I could try it. But When you are used to IE and try Chrome you find there are many things missing
- It doesn't parse XML properly
- It's too easy to accidentaly close all the frames when just trying to close one, and when you restart it doesn't show you the old frames you have to use spanner/New Tab/recently opened tabs
- It doesn't do FTP

SEO is another example of lying and distortion
|
- SEO pages like you sould use (h1) tag to show the main title for you page :
Bollocks there is a metatag called title to do this this is what Google's spider should be using (h1) is just a format tag.
Google use the title tage info in the search results it gives you !
If you used the (h1) tag on your page you'd end end up with massive text which would screw up the apperance of your webpage. These people suggest you then use other font commands to make the letters smaller .

You DON'T need this book to get what you want
- I heard this self help book writer interviewed on the radio. The book (You need this book to get what you want ) promised so much, but I found this Guardian review which pointed out that it's full of shit. This excellent podcast really slags the book off link Basically he points out the obvious that success is not that easy otherwise there'd be no recession. Or maybe every review he does it deliberately cynical
| Podcasts|
- Took some time to listen to a lot of podcasts, but no time to comment on them - Radio National ABC had a couple of good things :
- Counterpoint :LFTR's a fail safe "magic" nuclear reactor uses thorium
wired article on Thorium
- I also discovered a huge archive of intelligent podcasts at TEDtalks
Expert on happiness :the key o happiness is to lower your expectations
| Strange Maths
