British TV artificial|
- TV is getting very professional these days there are 300 channels, but there are 2 negative aspects - - 1 When there were only 4 channels time was at a premium documentaries used to have to compress all their info into 30 minutes, now they are more likely to take up up 1 or evn 2 hours there are a lot of padding out techniques being used. - artificial drama - To make things seem more exciting and dramatic documentaries are borrowing techniques from Reality TV, but on Top Gear you can see they are usung techniques to make competitions seem close when they are not and on many other shows scenes featurung real people have clearly been staged, the other thing is the artifical character presenters . One show which does this is BBC's "The Real Hustle" , but it's still worth watching on fast forward - - good review of it

Wow ! I managed to get my lost files back from a failed SD card
- Wow ! I managed to get my lost files back from a failed SD card with free software called pci_filerecovery.exe
- A few months back I plugged in my SD card and suddenly most of my files had disappeared. I have had this happen before on the same card, the thing is that SD cards cannot be written millions times they will fail eventually, but it is worth buying a branded name like Kingston for better reliability. That first time the PC told me the card needed to be formatted. I made the mistake of doing this, which made it more difficult to get back all the files. Eventually I found software which scans a drive for files and recovered most of them trouble is I didn't get the original filenames back. It seems that the file names are held are held in the File Allocation Table FATand when this gets corrupted that's when the SD card fails. So this time I was holding out to find software which actually gets the original file names back as well. ZAR does this, but it costs $50 .. I noticed they sometimes have a weekend sale so you can download it cheaper.
- I had tried pci_us_smartrecovery, but it doesn't recovery the original filenames either, then I tried an older less fancy version called pci_filerecovery.exe and it bloody worked ! It scanned the drive and , but inside all the subdirectories and files had the right names. That was more than 2000 files. Of the 20 files I had in the root directory I was able to recover 10,so that wasn't so bad.

- QUICK , but clumsy way with DOS : I found that you can repair a drive using the dos command CHKDSK /F Drivename: and this does the same job as those filerecovery software, but doesn't recover them with the correct file dot extenstion it just names the file as File001.chk, File002.chk etc, but if you know the correct file extension and rename it then the file works. So if a card only had ".jpg photos" on you could recover all the photos pretty easily using this.
- DELETED FILES easily recovered- some of the progs like pci_filerecovery.exe and unerase_en_h.exe I used have options to scan for deleted files and they work well just like Police Forensics
| Real player Problem
- I just noticed that when I play a wma file I get a this disk is write protected error, which is strange why would real player want to write when I am only telling it to play ? Maybe it also tries to connect to the internet to check licensing etc
I see it's only with wma,and wmv files and only in Real Player and it's beeen happening since I got back. Is it it a virus ? Well spybot and avg don't detect it like that. - Realplayer11 is out so updates are not available
| average Africans are more vulnerable to HIV AIDS
|
- BBC Radio Science revealed studies showing that on average Africans are more vulnerable to HIV AIDS.
- Many of them have a gene which gives them enhanced resistance against malaria, but it has 2 negative effects for HIV.
- 1. It's easier to catch he gave figures of 40 to 50%, which is significant but of course not as bad 2 or 3 times more likely
- 2. The HIV symptoms take on average 2 years longer to emerge. that would seem to a major impact - surely if people don't realise they are infected then HIV would be spread more ?
- This seems to go a long way to explain why AIDS is bigger in Africa than in other places. If this info is true why did it take so long to emerge ? fear of racial prejudice in America and fear of complacency in non-african people ?
