- I see that there are demonstrations and boycotts against French businesses all over JAPAN. All because the French government failed to stop the demonstrators in Paris. The Japanese government has explained .. "since Manchuria is part of Japan, the affair is a Japanese internal matter and not the business of meddling foreigners "..... This could have been a 1931 news story.
- I trust that yesterday's rent-a-mob patriotic China student demonstrators would have fully supported the views of the Japanese government in this case ?
- One has to respect the freedom and culture of all men one has to put oneself in the shoes of other men. Wouldn't the people of Manchuria wanted us to demonstrate for their freedom during the time of Japanese occupation ?
Summary
- Japanese Out of Manchuria !
- Chinese Out of Tibet !
- Freedom for Chinese Students to demonstrate in China !
- and ..... Freedom for governments to base decisions on logic and to ignore demonstrators requests.
- So Carrefour has to be punished for the failure of the French government in preventing disruption of the torch run ? Hang on a moment didn't the Chinese government in 2005 positively encourage violent demonstrations in China against Japanese property in China .. concerning the denialist Japanese School textbooks ? (I checked, businesses attacked, embassy windows broken, no Japanese hurt)
- But politics should be kept out of the Olympics !
- It's hypocritical for Chinese politicians to say we have a right switch off the negative news coming from Tibet by banning reporters from going there yet at the same time say they have the right to bathe in the positive news of the olympics, without disruption.
- Since the Han Chinese politicians control many none Han territories and deny citizens democracy they should expect demonstrations when they go to foreign countries. So if they go to the torch running then the demonstrators will come to. Their association with event politicises the event and makes it fair game for demonstrations.
- What is not acceptable demonstration would be if their were no politics involved in that circumstances then the demonstrators would be merely disrupting sportsmen in their business. Furthermore there is a clear line between what is demonstration i.e. expressing your opinion in public which is acceptable and violence which is not. Even if Chinese police kill demonstrators in Tibet, that does not give demonstrators in the west to break the law. Crossing a barrier is unlawful, and pushing a policeman and attempting to grab the torch is clearly assault which should not be accepted. When people try to grab the torch it does attract negative publicity for China, showing that people feel so passionately that they need to counteract the controlled message from within China, but 2 wrongs don't make a right.
- Hypocritical westerners taking their money and running - When China was given the olympics it was on the agreement that it improves it's Human Rights, there were worries that it would take the glory and still not make any changes.
Western organisations cooperated in the construction and build up and made money, if adequate changes have been made then it's totally wrong of them to pullout or criticise. However if the Chinese government has not made adequate changes then is it that broke the contract. Unfortunately other western companies like TV and Advertising agencies have so much money invested in the 2008 Olympics they can't afford to let it fail not matter how outrageous Chinese government human rights violations might become.
- Look politics should be kept out of football, but if George Bush or Tony Blair turned up at a football match then they should expect some political shouts.
- If Hitler had already invaded Poland when the 1931 Olympics took place, should people be prevented from disrupting that olympics ?
- Support the Tibet and Sichuan olympic teams ! ... oh, the occupying country won't let them have a team ! |
