From Democracy Now- internet Radio
- "Shooting Back" an Israeli NGO gives Palestinians in confrontational areas video cameras. This has led to exposees of situations where settlers hassle, abuse, throw stones etc and soldiers are caught on camera turning a blind eye. It made it to Israeli TV and the authorities have now pressed charges against the Israeli settlers. So the situation is getting better.
I never thought of this idea when I did my initial peacekam website. The Wall is where they could put cameras accessible by all sides.
- I imagine there are some negatives ?
- maybe soldiers could be targeted more easily by terrorists
- Terrorists could film other Palestinians who don't cooperate.
- By good people bad people are exposed. But by bad people good people are exposed. e.g. If a Palestinian and an Israeli were helped filming each other, they might face trouble. I would expect worse for the Palestinian. "What are you a collaborator ? etc"
Secrecy provides an opportunity for bad things, but often gives security.
- The pity is that the cameras don't catch the real powerful people behind the scenes. The Palestinian terrorists are probably more viscious, but less well armed than the Israeli Terrorist Government, which is less viscious but fantastically well armed. - Idea - International respect for the suffering day.
