- Father Patrick Desbois has just unearthed this story kept secret cos of communism and fear of the KGB. Everyone in the villages was afraid of the KGB and maybe the Nazis coming back now the new mayor helped him find villagers involved.

Indigenous Jungle stolen for huge soy : R Netherlands Enviroment Show

- 1. Paraguay - Indigenous land is being stolen by big businessmen who are cutting down the forest and planting soya.
- 1. Rich nature has disappeared forever.
- 2. Now the town is now quite prosperous, but the indigenous are even poorer cos they no longer have access to traditional jungle resources.

- It's a danger of CO2 panic that cases like these which we can easily do something about are often ignored as organisations concentrate on less effective minor CO2 fixes.

My replies : 1. The driving forces are money and politics : Money from clearing the land of valuable timber and selling the soy. Developing countries like China are vastly increasing meat consumption and will pay money for it.
- 2. I think you'll find that before colonisation indigenous people were often killing and enslaving their neighbouring tribes. So don't be too romantic about the past lets fix the issues of today.

- Now this is a thing we could do something about which probably makes a big difference to CO2. And much more effective than turning a few TVs off standby.

The Sahara is getting smaller : R Netherlands Enviroment Show 2

- The Sahara is getting smaller - (of course you won't see this as a positive in the one sided debate in the media.) This show said it was local people were beginning to see trees as belonging to them (not to outsiders/landowners) and therefore to value them. So they don't cut so much down

Myspace : sending gig posters to friends pages
- Peter wanted to send a poster to all his friends comments section, but Myspace only lets you do this one by one. It seems they use this automated comments tools which are technically illegal and could get your profile banned.
- if you feel safe you can try one of these auto comment pages I'm worried that later it will spam your friends as the guy below says it's against Myspace rules
- "March 2007: Using .. for commenting, messaging, or adding friends will probably get your Myspace account deleted or disabled."- try :
- www.myspacemaster.net/auto-comment-generator

- Myspace just can't stream fast enough all the music it has so only the popular music makes it through. But they have fixd this today I can hear all.

Westminster Ban Soup Kitchens
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7155783.stm
- London's main central council is to ban soup kitchens. (but the other areas have different councils)

- Some charities are supporting it. Saying it's useless spending money and resources keeping 200 people fed, wheras it would be better to concentrate on getting 5 people each week off the street.
- Now that makes a lot of sense to me

- "What is surprising is that Westminster Council has been backed by an unlikely coalition of homeless charities and even some former rough sleepers. "

'Upside down' priorities - The founder of the Big Issue magazine John Bird, who spent years living rough, also believes that soup runs keep people on the streets. "

In Panama it seems there's a fascinating spat in a between journalists who are staid, but honest - and other who takes a soft line on over optimistic investment deals etc

Crazy Japan on UAN R5

- Radio 5 Up All Night featured a book about Japanese Culture and all the strange stuff.

  • One day at the school a whole fleet of buses took the whole school 1500 pupils to 40 Km and then they all just walked back. The expert said it was probably a bonding exercise.
  • The teacher didn't see his teacher friend for a week. He asked where she had been and she said that she had got married and been on honeymoon in Australia for 4 days. - He couldn't understand why she didn't tell him in advance. The expert said traditionally marriage is a different concept. He said as women typically said to their boss "a marriage has happened to me", as if it was something they have no control over . And that men regarded it as something to get over with. Coming from a time when marriage was arranged.

- DW just had a story about Paris Syndrome happening to Japs. Apparently Paris is portrayed so romantically in Japanese media that when many Japanese experience the real Paris they go into a state of shock 10 have to hospitalised each year.

Shooting Back Project

From Democracy Now- internet Radio
- "Shooting Back" an Israeli NGO gives Palestinians in confrontational areas video cameras. This has led to exposees of situations where settlers hassle, abuse, throw stones etc and soldiers are caught on camera turning a blind eye. It made it to Israeli TV and the authorities have now pressed charges against the Israeli settlers. So the situation is getting better.

I never thought of this idea when I did my initial peacekam website. The Wall is where they could put cameras accessible by all sides.

- I imagine there are some negatives ?
- maybe soldiers could be targeted more easily by terrorists
- Terrorists could film other Palestinians who don't cooperate.
- By good people bad people are exposed. But by bad people good people are exposed. e.g. If a Palestinian and an Israeli were helped filming each other, they might face trouble. I would expect worse for the Palestinian. "What are you a collaborator ? etc"

Secrecy provides an opportunity for bad things, but often gives security.

- The pity is that the cameras don't catch the real powerful people behind the scenes. The Palestinian terrorists are probably more viscious, but less well armed than the Israeli Terrorist Government, which is less viscious but fantastically well armed.

- Idea - International respect for the suffering day.
